Rushdie: surviving 2022 knife attack gave him strength to write new novel

Salman Rushdie has returned with "The Eleventh Hour", his first work of fiction since the 2022 knife attack that left him blind in one eye. Speaking at Porto's new BABELL literary festival, he reflected on resilience, censorship, mortality and the power of storytelling as an act of human freedom. Rushdie has faced threats for over three decades, since the 1989 fatwa issued after the publication of "The Satanic Verses".
