China's new ethnic unity law raises forced assimilation fears for minorities
China has enacted a new ethnic unity law that critics warn could accelerate forced assimilation of ethnic minorities and be used to target dissidents living outside the country. Beijing has rejected those characterisations, insisting the law promotes social harmony.
