Xbox Project Helix ditches disc drive; Nintendo may be last physical games holdout
Sony confirmed it will stop offering physical discs for the PS5 from January 2028, and now Xbox's upcoming Project Helix is also reported to launch without a disc drive, according to Windows Central. Microsoft is additionally exploring converting physical Xbox One and Xbox Series games into digital media, per The Verge. Nintendo now appears to be the only major console maker still committed to physical game media.
