Algerians vote for new parliament on public holiday with free transport

Algerians went to the polls on 2 July to elect a new parliament. Authorities declared the day a public holiday and made public transport free in an effort to boost turnout. In the last elections only a quarter of eligible voters cast a ballot, and the government is hoping for significantly higher participation this time.
