Vatican excommunicates rebel bishops of ultra-traditionalist SSPX

The Vatican's disciplinary authority has excommunicated bishops of the Society of Saint Pius X (SSPX), an ultra-traditionalist Catholic group. The severe measures were imposed after the SSPX consecrated bishops without papal consent, a serious violation of canon law. It is the harshest action the Holy See has taken against the group in years.
