OpenAI floats giving US government a 5% ownership stake in the company

OpenAI has floated the idea of giving the US government a 5% ownership stake as a way to ease tensions with the Trump administration and counter growing public backlash against AI, according to the Financial Times. CEO Sam Altman argued the move would be the best way to give the public a financial interest in the company's success. The proposal has not yet been formally agreed upon.
