Milky Way's outer spiral arms are 10% farther than previously thought

Scientists used data from the XMM-Newton and Chandra space telescopes to analyse X-ray echoes from three exceptionally bright explosions. The results suggest that the outer spiral arms of the Milky Way may lie up to 10% farther away than previously calculated. The finding could revise current models of our galaxy's size and structure.
