China planted 66 billion trees — but its forests behave differently from natural ones
China's "Great Green Wall" project has planted around 66 billion trees to combat desertification and sandstorms in the country's north. It is the world's largest afforestation programme, running for several decades. However, scientific studies show that these artificially planted forests behave differently from natural ones.
