Overbooking at the airport: what are your passenger rights?

Overbooking — selling more tickets than available seats — happens more often than travellers realise. Passengers denied boarding are entitled to compensation of between €250 and €600, a full ticket refund or alternative flight, and airport care. Knowing your rights and asserting them at the check-in desk is the most effective course of action.
