Companies are scrambling to reduce spiralling AI costs after providers began charging per token, with some resorting to tools that strip down prompts to near-primitive language to save money. The so-called "Tokenpocalypse" describes the corporate panic around runaway AI spending. Meanwhile, entirely AI-generated fake flowers have flooded eBay, Etsy and Amazon listings.

We start this week with Joseph’s story about the Tokenpocalypse, which is companies scrambling to stop spending so much on AI after providers started charging per AI token.
