Cannibalism Is Calorically Unprofitable, Researchers Find

Michał Misiak of the University of Wrocław and Petr Tureček of Charles University in Prague have published "The Cannibalistic Trade-Off," arguing that cannibalism persists across all continents and eras despite being one of humanity's strongest taboos. Their explanation is economic: eating other humans is simply unprofitable in caloric and social-cost terms. The study offers an evolutionary, cost-benefit framework for understanding both the taboo and its repeated violation.
