Opening the fridge for no reason? It's an emotional signal, not hunger
Psychologists explain that reflexively opening the fridge is rarely driven by true hunger — it most commonly signals boredom, stress or the need for emotional comfort. The habit can become a concern when it serves as a regular coping mechanism for difficult emotions. Reducing the behaviour requires awareness of one's emotional states and developing alternative responses to stress.
