Syria's first post-Assad parliament includes former political prisoners
Syria's authorities have announced 70 members of a new parliament appointed by President Ahmed al-Shara, forming one third of the assembly set to hold its first session on Monday. This is the first parliament convened since the fall of Bashar al-Assad's long-running authoritarian rule in 2024. Among the new lawmakers are former prisoners of the Assad regime.
