AMOC ocean current slowdown may be gradual and reversible, new modelling suggests
New climate modelling suggests that the weakening of the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC) may be gradual and reversible, rather than a sudden irreversible collapse. Scientists had feared that meltwater surges from Greenland could permanently shut down the current. The new simulations indicate that reducing CO₂ levels could reverse the slowdown.
