Etna erupts from 3,000m vent, Italy raises alert to yellow

Mount Etna in Sicily has begun a new eruption from a vent at approximately 3,000 metres above sea level, sending large lava flows down its slopes visible from kilometres away. Italy's Civil Protection Department has raised the alert level from green to yellow. The National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) is continuously monitoring the activity.
