EU charges customs fee per item on China parcels from July 1

From 1 July 2026, the European Union has abolished the customs exemption for low-value parcels from outside the EU, including from China. The new rules impose a duty on each individual item in a shipment, aimed at protecting consumers and levelling competition with European retailers. Purchases on platforms such as Temu and Shein will consequently become more expensive for EU customers.
