Sweden mandates cash payments in shops and pharmacies

From Wednesday, grocery stores and pharmacies in Sweden are legally required to accept cash payments. The move is designed to strengthen national resilience in the event of a crisis or war. Sweden had previously been developing a digital currency, but shelved the project in 2023 following Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
