Human activity has driven Pine Island Glacier retreat since the mid-20th century

New research shows that human activity has significantly driven the retreat of Pine Island Glacier in West Antarctica since the mid-20th century. It is one of the largest and fastest-retreating glaciers on Earth, and its destabilisation accelerates broader ice loss in the region. The melting of the Antarctic ice sheet contributes to rising sea levels worldwide.
