UK bets $6.6bn on drones across all forces, scrapping its future destroyer

The UK has announced a more than $6.6-billion initiative to transform all three armed services around uncrewed and autonomous systems. Most dramatically, the Royal Navy will sacrifice its planned future destroyer in favour of a hybrid concept pairing crewed warships with autonomous vessels. The Army and RAF will also be reconfigured around drones, including swarms of low-cost kamikaze strike drones, autonomous submarine-hunting frigates and drone wingmen for Apache helicopters.
