Valve confirms it is exploring ARM-based Steam Machine gaming hardware

Valve engineers Pierre-Loup Griffais and Yazan Aldehayyat confirmed the company is "definitely" investigating an ARM-based future for the Steam Machine gaming PC. Valve is already developing FEX, a translation layer enabling x86 games to run on ARM chips, analogous to how Proton brings Windows games to Linux. The company is also planning an ARM-specific SteamOS release for its upcoming Snapdragon-based VR headset, the Steam Frame.
