ESA calls private Minecraft servers illegal piracy at Stop Killing Games hearing

At a California State Senate hearing on the Protect Our Games Act — a Stop Killing Games bill that would require publishers to keep games playable after server shutdowns — ESA VP Jennifer Gibbons declared that private Minecraft servers are "illegal" and constitute piracy. She was responding to Assemblyman Chris Ward, who cited community servers for Minecraft and Call of Duty as existing solutions. The ESA's position has been widely criticised as out of touch with the gaming community.
