13-year-old Alyssa Tapley becomes first person saved by CRISPR base editing

Alyssa Tapley, 13, was given only weeks to live after standard leukaemia treatments failed. She was offered an experimental procedure using CRISPR base editing, a precise form of gene editing, which saved her life. She is now the first person in the world whose life has been saved by this technique. Her case opens new possibilities for treating blood cancers.
