Cold kills more people than heat – so why are heatwaves more dangerous?
Several million people die from cold each year compared to several hundred thousand from heat, yet rising temperatures are a far greater overall threat. The danger from warming goes well beyond direct heat deaths: droughts, wildfires, disease spread and food insecurity compound the toll in ways that raw mortality numbers from cold do not capture. The article argues that equating "warmer = fewer cold deaths" is a dangerous oversimplification.
