Florida bans local governments from pursuing net-zero emissions goals
Florida's new law, HB 1217, prohibits local governments from pursuing net-zero emissions goals. At least 10 cities and counties — including Fort Lauderdale, Miami, Orlando, and Leon County — had already adopted such policies. Bradley Marshall, senior attorney at Earthjustice, says the law is "meant to scare municipalities," but its exact scope and what adjacent climate policies it affects remains open to legal debate.
