Antarctica's Mount Erebus erupts 80 grams of gold dust every day

Mount Erebus on Ross Island, the world's southernmost active volcano, releases approximately 80 grams of gold particles daily through its volcanic gases. The discovery was made in the 1990s by a team led by Kimberly Meeker of the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology and published in Geophysical Research Letters. The volcano sits just 1,350 km from the geographic South Pole and contains a permanently active lava lake.
