Terzan 5 reclassified – astronomers discover new class of galactic building blocks
Using the Hubble Space Telescope and the James Webb Space Telescope, astronomers have found that Terzan 5 – long considered a globular cluster – actually belongs to a rare new class of objects called "bulge fossil fragments," thought to be building blocks of galaxies. The discovery reshapes understanding of how the Milky Way's central bulge formed. Researchers say Terzan 5's true nature required reclassifying it entirely.
