UK regulator proposes forcing Apple to allow third-party payments and Apple Pay rivals
The UK's Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has proposed forcing Apple to allow developers to link to third-party payment options for app and subscription purchases outside the App Store. The proposal explicitly bans Apple from using "malicious compliance" tactics — the workarounds the company has deployed in both the US and EU to technically meet rules while undermining their intent. The measures would also require Apple to allow Apple Pay rivals to operate in the UK market.
