Elephant trunk: the remarkable anatomy explained

The elephant's trunk is one of the most extraordinary anatomical structures in the animal kingdom, combining the functions of a nose, hand and tool. African elephants are herbivores, feeding on grasses, leaves, bark and branches. Contrary to popular belief, their favourite foods are not peanuts but sugar cane, bananas, and the fruit and bark of the marula tree.
