Algae return to Lincoln Memorial reflecting pool days after cleaning
President Trump vowed to renovate the Lincoln Memorial reflecting pool and paint it "American flag blue" by 4 July, but algae returned within days of the pool being stripped, cleaned, coated and refilled. Freshwater ecologist Dr Linda May explains that algae blooms are driven by nutrient build-up and are extremely difficult to eliminate permanently without changing the water chemistry.
