Ozone hole existed 30 years before discovery – and CFCs weren't the first cause

New research suggests the ozone hole could have been detected 30 years before scientists officially discovered it in 1985, had modern atmospheric monitoring tools been available. The study also reveals that CFCs were not the original cause of the hole — other atmospheric factors were responsible for its earliest formation. The finding reshapes the understanding of ozone layer depletion history.
