Albanese defends housing tax reform as market clearance rates drop below 50%

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese defended the Labor government's housing tax reforms on ABC's 7.30 programme, after clearance rates fell below 50% in most major capital cities following the changes. He argued that first-home buyers should no longer compete against investors subsidised by extra tax deductions worth $20,000–$50,000 more per bid. Albanese said the reform is about fairness and tackling intergenerational inequity in housing.
