US Supreme Court rules mail-in ballots received after polls close must be counted

The US Supreme Court has ruled that mail-in ballots cast before polls close but received afterwards must be counted as valid votes. The decision rejects a request by the Republican National Committee, backed by Donald Trump, to have such ballots invalidated. The ruling is a setback for Republican efforts to restrict mail-in voting rules ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
