Iran hits back at France-Oman pact on Strait of Hormuz freedom of navigation
French President Emmanuel Macron and Omani Sultan Haitham bin Tariq met in Paris on Monday and called for free, unrestricted navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, announcing joint demining operations. Iran reacted sharply to the military cooperation pact, viewing it as a challenge to its influence over the strategically vital waterway. Around 20% of the world's oil supplies pass through the Strait of Hormuz.
