36 Years On, Akira's Manga Still Has One of Cyberpunk's Greatest Endings

Katsuhiro Otomo's Akira manga, which began serialisation in 1982, is still regarded as having one of the finest endings in cyberpunk fiction 36 years on. Six years into the manga's run, Otomo directed the landmark 1988 anime film based on the then-unfinished story, which became a cornerstone of the cyberpunk genre and inspired a global cult following.
