Poland's 40.5°C record will be broken eventually — humidity equally deadly

Dr Grzegorz Duniec of the Polish Institute of Meteorology (IMGW-PIB) says the record 40.5°C recorded in Słubice on Sunday will inevitably be broken in the future. Climatologist Dr Michał Marosz highlights that humidity is as important as temperature for health risks during heatwaves, as high humidity prevents effective cooling through sweating. Experts agree that the summer of 2026 is shaping up to be historically extreme.
