City fountains harbour Staphylococcus and Salmonella – bathing in them is risky

As Poland faces a wave of extreme heat, urban fountains are drawing crowds seeking relief, but experts warn the water may contain Staphylococcus, Salmonella and faecal bacteria. Unlike swimming pools and official bathing areas, fountains are not subject to regular sanitary inspections. Bathing in them risks skin infections, food poisoning and other serious illnesses.
