25 years ago, the world was introduced to the sweetest, most wholesome sorority-girl-turned-Harvard-law-student in Legally Blonde . Iconically played by Reese Witherspoon , Elle Woods is virtually impossible not to like. She's exuberantly positive, kind-hearted, and can be doggedly determined if she sets her mind to something. Elle also broke the tired stereotype of the blonde bimbo, proving that a woman can be feminine and beautiful while also being intelligent and valuing integrity and justice. As it happens, when any movie becomes a success, studios quickly swoop in to turn it into a franchise. For Legally Blonde , that meant a decently successful sequel, a Broadway musical , and a direct-to-video movie that's probably best left forgotten, but nothing has ever really come close to the success of the original. Prime Video's Elle is the latest entry, and much like the other titles, the prequel series can't really hold a candle to the movie that started it all .

Mazda predicts that global demand for SUVs will continue to climb.

Small crossovers in Europe and China are driving the next boom.

In Australia, CX-6e pre-orders are already outpacing the 6e sedan.

Anyone betting that the SUV craze has finally crested should think again, because Mazda sees the curve still pointing upward. The company expects SUV sales to keep climbing worldwide, and the prediction carries some weight given its source: the man running the Mazda6e sedan program, who has every reason to talk up cars rather than the crossovers eating their lunch.

Hiroshi Ozawa is the General Manager of the Changan Mazda Automobile Technical Development Center, responsible for the fully electric 6e and CX-6e models. When asked by Australian media CarSales if the market was approaching peak SUV, he said:

“Globally, I believe that the SUV will still grow. That’s our projection. The small SUV… that segment is the fastest-growing SUV.” Those remarks hint at Mazda’s next goal, a successor to the aging CX-3 positioned below the CX-30 in global markets.

Ozawa revealed that demand for small SUVs is being driven by Europe , with China also contributing to the segment’s growth.

The Mazda6e (above) and the Mazda CX-6e below developed with the help of Changan.

Mazda’s own order books back the forecast, at least where it counts. In Australia, the 6e sedan pulled 700 pre-orders while the mechanically related CX-6e cleared more than 1,000, so even within the same showroom and the same platform, buyers gravitated toward the taller body.

Mazda Australia managing director Vinesh Bhindi said buyers Down Under “love midsize SUVs,” and the numbers leave little room for argument even as passenger cars stage a modest comeback. Per CarSales, SUVs make up almost 63 percent of new vehicle sales in Australia so far this year, which explains why the crossover keeps winning the moment a customer has to choose.

Globally, Mazda’s lineup is dominated by SUVs . The CX-3, CX-30, CX-50, and CX-5 are joined by CX-60, CX-70, CX-80, and CX-90 quartet. As for cars, the only ones left are the soon-to-be-discontinued Mazda2, Mazda3, Mazda6e, and MX-5.

NASA is taking the "America 250" birthday celebration to new heights.

The agency has big plans for July 4 — the 250th anniversary of the ratification of the Declaration of Independence — which involves both aircraft and spacecraft.

"From the earliest days of exploration, to the first steps on the moon and the missions shaping our future, NASA represents the spirit of discovery that defines our nation," the agency wrote on a webpage marking the milestone anniversary.

A special patch worn by the Artemis 2 astronauts honors America’s 250th anniversary. The theme of NASA’s celebration is "Rocket’s Red Glare," a famous lyric in "The Star-Spangled Banner." (Image credit: NASA/Joel Kowsky) The party was already underway in April, when the Artemis 2 mission circled the moon. The four Artemis 2 astronauts — three from NASA and one from the Canadian Space Agency — sported "America 250" patches among their gear.

The patch shows NASA's Space Launch System (SLS) rocket launching into the black, near a "250" surrounded by stars. Around the edges of the patch are the words "NASA: The rocket's red glare," alluding to the U.S. national anthem.

Another version of the America 250 emblem, prominently featuring the numbers in red and blue, also was mounted on each of the solid rocket boosters of Artemis 2's SLS.

There's a lot more planned in the coming weeks to ramp up to Independence Day and beyond. NASA said it will have a "series of special aircraft flyovers" at the following locations and times:

July 3-5: The Great American State Fair, Washington, D.C.

July 4: Salute to America: The Nation's 250th Birthday Fireworks Celebration, Washington, D.C.

July 23-24: EAA AirVenture, Oshkosh, Wisconsin

Aug. 23: Freedom 250 Grand Prix of Washington, D.C.

Oct. 3-4: Pacific Air Show, Huntington Beach, California

Oct. 31-Nov. 1: Commemorative Air Force Wings Over Houston Air Show

The agency also plans to make a special appearance at the Great American State Fair on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., between June 25 and July 10. NASA will host a pavilion featuring Artemis , a model of its planned Moon Base and a crew survival suit for the Orion spacecraft .

Other pavilion exhibits include "authentic spacesuit tools, immersive pop-up visuals, the X-59 experimental aircraft model, interactive tabletop demonstrations, astronaut food, and life-size astronaut cutouts for photos," NASA officials stated.

NASA has also celebrated America 250 by displaying the event logo on the countdown clock at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida, the Artemis 2 launch site, and lighting up the Washington Monument with an SLS rocket projection around New Year's Eve.

Meanwhile, NASA's Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex is offering a " 250 Space Dreams " contest between July 1 and Aug. 2. The Space Coast facility will randomly select visitors to receive an envelope with a certificate and QR code inside.

Prizes will vary, but winners could receive NASA merch, spots on a bus tour, a free ticket to an astronaut chat, or grand prizes for things such as signed astronaut gear or $250 for on-site souvenirs.
