Samsung and SK Hynix invest $590 billion in AI chips as memory prices set to soar 50% per quarter
Samsung and SK Hynix, backed by the South Korean government, are investing a combined $590 billion in new chip factories and packaging centres to meet surging demand from AI data centres. According to Jefferies, memory prices could rise by up to 50 percent per quarter through 2027. Together the two companies control nearly 80 percent of the global high-bandwidth memory (HBM) market.
