Lithium battery power banks pose a serious fire risk on aircraft

Lithium-ion batteries found in smartphones and power banks are an increasing fire hazard on aircraft, especially during the busy summer travel season when passenger numbers peak. Travellers often unknowingly carry damaged or counterfeit batteries capable of spontaneous combustion mid-flight. Airlines are tightening regulations on carrying such devices as the risk grows.
