WHO: European heatwave linked to over 1,300 deaths, 85% aged 65 or above
The World Health Organization has reported that Europe's current heatwave has been linked to more than 1,300 deaths. Some 85% of victims were aged 65 or older, with the sharpest mortality increases recorded in areas under red extreme heat warnings. The WHO is calling for stronger protection measures for elderly people during heatwave events.
