Gabriele Stötzer gets biggest-ever East German female artist show at Berlin's Martin Gropius Bau
Berlin's Martin Gropius Bau gallery is hosting the biggest-ever exhibition of East German female artist Gabriele Stötzer in a state museum. Stötzer was one of the most radical artists of communist East Germany, creating work in defiance of the GDR's oppressive restrictions while often struggling to afford basic materials. She recalled having to choose between buying a sausage or film for her Super 8 camera.
