Smartphones don't attract lightning – what to actually protect during a storm
Smartphones do not attract lightning strikes — that is a widespread myth. During a thunderstorm, unplugging devices from wall sockets is recommended, as surge-protection strips alone cannot withstand a direct lightning strike. Turning off a TV with a remote is insufficient since stand-by devices remain powered and vulnerable to surges. A lightning rod protects the building structure but does not guarantee the safety of electronics inside.
