Order of species loss affects how grasslands maintain stability, study finds

A new study finds that the order in which species disappear from grassland ecosystems significantly affects those habitats' ability to remain stable. Grasslands cover roughly 40% of Earth's terrestrial ecosystems and are vital for global food security, biodiversity and carbon sequestration. Protecting native grasslands is becoming increasingly challenging in the face of rising temperatures and shifting weather patterns.
