Looters with excavators accidentally uncovered an unknown Roman villa near Castel di Guido

Looters carrying out illegal night-time excavations with mechanical diggers near Castel di Guido outside Rome stumbled upon a previously unknown Roman villa. Rome's metropolitan police were alerted and found deep trenches and spoil heaps left by the intruders. The Castel di Guido area is known for its association with the era of the so-called "good emperors" of Rome.
