Saddled with mixed reviews and a mediocre audience response, Supergirlfell short of expectations in its box-office debut this weekend. The movie stars Milly Alcock as the titular character, who was glimpsed in last year's Superman. That film marked the launch of the DC Universe, spearheaded by James Gunnand Peter Safran. The franchise was officially set up following the mixed response to the DC Extended Universe, which ran from 2013 to 2023. Superman grossed a little less than $620 million worldwide in 2025, which was a lower haul than that of Man of Steel, which launched the DCEU in 2013. Gunn's series will now have to regain the audience's favor after Supergirl, which is shaping up to be a major misfire for the studio.
