France resists air conditioning even as deadly heatwaves intensify
France remains deeply resistant to air conditioning, with environment minister Monique Barbut saying she was "horrified" at the prospect of it becoming widespread. Despite brutal heatwaves, A/C adoption has been slow due to political opposition and difficulties installing units in historic buildings. Schools, hospitals and care homes are particularly vulnerable during extreme heat events.
