Philip II of France Rejected Danish Princess Ingeborg the Day After Their Wedding
In August 1193, Danish princess Ingeborg married the powerful French king Philip II Augustus, but the very next morning he resolved to be rid of her. For the following twenty years, the king, the Pope, and the imprisoned queen were locked in one of the most extraordinary matrimonial disputes of the Middle Ages. The reasons for Philip's sudden rejection remain unclear to this day.
