Scientists measure black hole spin from signal captured at the event horizon

A team of scientists detected a faint, previously unread signal from the edge of a black hole's event horizon, captured in the instant before it formed. Using this signal, they measured the new black hole's spin and surface gravity. The finding opens a new way to test Einstein's general theory of relativity under the most extreme gravitational conditions known.
