LiDAR laser technology reveals lost Mayan city hidden in Mexican jungle
Archaeologists have discovered a lost Mayan city hidden in the jungle of the Calakmul Biosphere Reserve in Campeche, Mexico, using LiDAR laser scanning technology. After identifying the site remotely, researchers and local community members from Constitución had to hack their way through 5 kilometres of dense jungle with machetes, with equipment brought in by quad bikes. It is the first new archaeological site found in the area in three years.
