Barney Curley's 1975 Bellewstown Racecourse Con That Still Echoes in Ireland
In the summer of 1975, Barney Curley pulled off one of the most audacious betting coups in Irish horse-racing history at the small village of Bellewstown, about 15 miles north of Dublin. During what should have been an unremarkable amateur jockey race on the Hill of Crockafotha, Curley outsmarted bookmakers to win a fortune. The story remains local legend in Bellewstown to this day.
